Infinity Mountains

ARTIST STATEMENT

I find reflective materials to be a fascinating medium to work with as the surface “color” of the materials change with the environment surrounding it, the atmospheric conditions and azimuth angle of the sun.

You will never have the same experience with Infinity Mountains twice, as the combination of light angle, quality brightness and color are variable.

Your experience with my work, is also an experience of you in my work. You become the work, and the work becomes you, if only for that moment in time.

ARTIST DESCRIPTION

Infinity Mountains is a 3D installation work guided by the spirits of my ancestors, and their reverence for all life on our sacred Earth.

Arranged in respect to the four sacred directions North, South, East and West, the four acrylic mirror-covered geometric structures represent sacred mountains.

The peak of a mountain being the closest a human can be to the creator while their feet remain on the ground, the closer to the creator, the better he can hear our prayers.

From mountain peaks the melting snow produces fresh clean water, the essence of life, running down all over the mountains creating the smooth surface represented by the mirrors, and reflecting the environment and life around you as it happens in real time.

When you enter Infinity Mountain’s interior space, you are met with the parallel mirrored surfaces of the North and South mountains.

You see your reflection, as it continuously reflects into itself seemingly indefinitely, with each reflection being older than the last, as the light fades, time fades and your reflection finally fades out of visibility.

You become a part of Infinity Mountains for a moment in time, yet the only impression that is left is the memory of your experience which will also fade as time fades.

Without an impression is how you leave Infinity Mountains, as we should leave this Earth, as my ancestors that have walked before me.
